Information We Collect & Process
Audio Capture (User-Initiated Only)
Captured tab audio stream from the playing video
When you explicitly press "Start Transcribing", VoxCue captures the digital audio stream of the active tab in small segments and transmits them to our speech-to-text service at api.toolscase.com. Capture begins only on your command and stops immediately when you pause, stop, close the sidebar, or navigate away. Audio segments are processed in memory and are NOT retained as audio files after transcription.
Microphone & Background Immunity
Zero microphone or background tab audio access
VoxCue does NOT request, access, or record your microphone, camera, or screen. It does not monitor or capture audio from any tab where you have not explicitly started a transcription session.
Authentication & Account Information
Account profile details (Name, Email Address) & encrypted tokens
When you log in with your Toolscase account, we collect your name and email address to manage your account and enforce your plan daily transcription allowance. Your session tokens are stored securely in local extension storage (chrome.storage.local).
Local Extension Data & History
Saved transcripts, subtitle styling preferences, and UI state
Your recent transcripts (up to 20), custom subtitle font/color settings, and sync preferences are saved locally on your device via chrome.storage.local. This data remains on your computer and is never shared with third parties.
Permissions Declared & Justifications
In accordance with Google Chrome Web Store Minimal Permissions policy, VoxCue AI requests only the permissions strictly required to transcribe videos and overlay subtitles:
Captures the digital audio stream of the active tab when you explicitly click Start Transcribing. Does not capture microphone input or system audio.
Enables user-initiated interaction with the active tab and provides the security authorization required for tabCapture.
Allows VoxCue to render its live transcript, AI notes, search panel, and chapter navigation in Chrome persistent sidebar.
Required to save your authentication token, recent transcripts, and subtitle styling preferences locally in chrome.storage.local.
Used to monitor tab activation and update events so VoxCue can detect when you switch to a tab with an active video session.
Adds a convenient right-click shortcut ("Transcribe with VoxCue") to web pages and video elements.
Used to fetch YouTube player timedtext in the page context and as a one-time fallback to inject the content script on existing tabs.
Required so VoxCue can detect video players and render subtitle overlays on any website where you choose to watch videos.
Third-Party Services
- Transcription Engine (Groq / Whisper): Audio segments are securely processed via encrypted HTTPS to convert speech to text. Audio is discarded immediately after processing.
- Google Translate: Used only when you choose to translate subtitles into a language other than original audio. Only text is translated; no audio is ever sent to Google Translate.
- Toolscase API (api.toolscase.com): Manages authentication tokens and tracks daily quota limits.
Data Retention & Deletion
All saved transcripts and preferences are stored locally in your browser. You can clear individual transcripts anytime from the VoxCue side panel or delete all local data by uninstalling the extension. To request deletion of your Toolscase account profile, email support@toolscase.com.
